It wasn’t that long ago that I was a complete newbie to the adoption world. I had no idea what the “Triad” was and I certainly wasn’t expecting an anti-adoption movement!

Well, for those of you who are new to this, the Triad is made up of:

1.) Those who gave birth to children who have been adopted (Birth Parents/First Parents) and you can read blogs from them here.

2.) Those who were adopted (Adoptees) and you can read blogs from them here.

3.) Those who have adopted children and you can read blogs from them in most of our other blogs listed to the right of this one.

Not everybody in the triad is happy. Who is unhappy differs from day to day as we’re all human and life is like a roller coaster – we may think we can touch the sky one minute and then fall to the greatest depths we could ever imagine in the next minute. This is real life – sunshine is balanced with rain and joy is balanced with pain. Without these neither our gardens nor we would grow.

For any of you who may be new to the world of adoption, I would highly recommend familiarizing yourself with all members of the triad and their stories.

If you’re just getting started, you should also read the “For Newbies” series. Chances are, you’ll come across some unhappy people in your efforts to educate yourself and this will help to explain why.

Don’t forget the other members of the Quadrad:
4.) Those who cared for the children temporarily after the original parental rights were terminated
These “temporary” caregivers are just as important and become just as emotionally invested as everyone else you listed.

  2. You’re absolutely right! I’ve only ever heard of the “Triad” but you make a great point and I thank you for teaching me something new today.

My son’s fmom in Guatemala was about the best fmom in the world! He is the wonderful and happy boy he is today in large part due to her excellent care of him.

So, snazzlepup, here’s to the quadrad!! :)

  4. I can say the same for the nannies who cared for my two before they came home.
